Upland — The monopoly on blockchain

Upland — The monopoly on blockchain

Welcome to Hoken Tech!

When it comes to crypto and especially blockchain, everyone has in mind the crypto of the day such as bitcoin or the most recent NFT phenomenon, but few pauses to look at other nascent and flourishing sectors that have developed over time.

And today we are going to analyze a blockchain sector which is that of video games, but instead of being on centralized and traditional platforms, these are located on the blockchain and can only be interacted with through the use of a wallet.

One of the problems, the player side, can encounter is the complete lack of monetizing our progress during a game or after completing it, spending our most precious resource, which is the time both to play and to level objects and characters of our favorite games.

And for what in the end, is the strongest object in the game? Can I sell or trade it?

And it is here that blockchain games give a new impetus to the video game industry as the user not only plays a game they like but also can monetize his progress by selling his assets as armor or even characters to another user and also taking advantage of an internal marketplace of the game.

What if they were virtual pieces of land instead of objects that we can even build on them?

And here Upland has combined the two things that are to create a video game in which users can own a plot of land and then build something on it like property for example, and in addition, anyone who will pass or stop on our piece of land, we will also get of the tokens of the game itself.

How does Upland work?

In other words, Upland has created a virtual map of the entire world and with the various cities, where anyone can buy a piece of land in the place they prefer, as long as it is available otherwise they should make an offer to buy that piece of land.

The game is based on the EOS blockchain and now has several years behind it and with several successes achieved. This makes it the largest game on this blockchain with thousands of users worldwide traveling around this world, a real metaverse.

Inside, we also find its digital currency, the UPX, which we will need to buy the pieces of land we want with a ratio of € 1 per 1000 UPX, where the various plots of land range from 3000 UPX up.

How to play Upland?

The first step to enter this world is to register on the Upland website, here we choose our avatar from those available, and follow the handy tutorial that explains the mechanics of the game we are going to use.

Then we have to choose an area where to make the first purchase by choosing from 13 areas at the moment and with various prices also:

After we have chosen the area of our interest, we will be welcomed by Upland’s initiative for new users where there are lands reserved for them and which can be bought at a low price, allowing everyone to start playing without investing anything, and these plots are green on the map:

After identifying the plot that interests us, we can click on the “Buy” button and confirm the purchase, in this case, the property costs just under 2000 UPX:

And here in a few moments, we bought our property and the transaction was generated on the EOS blockchain, and as can be seen from the image, the color of the property now turns blue:

A very interesting aspect of this game is that it allows us to see an image of the area and our property in the real world, also allowing us to evaluate the more or less interesting areas to invest in the case:

The more visitors will be on our plot, the greater the revenues and therefore the UPX tokens that we will receive, then by buying more plots we can also make them pay in a further way.

But the most interesting thing is the “Build” item as soon as we become an uplander, a status that is reached with the threshold of 10 thousand UPX, we will be able to build right on our plot, then build a digital structure on digital land, extending the possible options.

Finally, we recall that Upland recently introduced the possibility of opening digital stores within the game, the so-called metaventures in which owners can sell their NFTs in exchange for UPX or fiat coins such as dollars, so something that goes well beyond the simple entertainment of the game and allows in fact to create a parallel economy.
